These are the flat plans for my music magazine front cover and double page spread: I plan for the strapline 'Music Magazine of the Year' to be on top of the masthead and I will also make the masthead larger so that it sits behind the models head. I also plan for the feature colour to be used on the anchor on the front cover to present my artist as a selling point. The artists name runs vertically on both the front cover and double page spread to subvert the horizontal convention The style of my article will be a blend of a review and an opinion piece. I intend to construct the front cover and double-page spread of a music magazine aimed at 14 to 18-year-olds. I have chosen the name ‘Vinyl’, stylised in sans-serif, for the title of my magazine, as the main genre of my magazine is contemporary which has elements of old-school music. My media text is best suited for those who want to discover new and upcoming artists who break away from the conventional sound of ‘R&B’. My audience have a strong appreciation for meaningful lyrics and although they wouldn’t necessarily be familiar with everything within the genre, they would be open-minded to discover it. I intend to have my model gaze directly into the camera so that she is presented as brazen and confident – a trait that appeals to my audience as found in my focused audience research. Elements of my reader profile stem from the different responses in my focused and general audience researches.

In my focused audience research, I asked my two female participants a series of questions in order to gain an insight of their preferences. Question 1: Name an artist you like from your favourite genre. I asked my participants to name an artist that they liked from their favourite genre so that I could get an idea about the type of artists my target audience would want to see on a magazine front cover. One participant answered "Billie Eilish" whilst the other answered "Hey Violet". These artists both have unique styles and I plan to take elements from each when creating my own artist. Question 2: Which magazine do you prefer out of the three? I sent my participants three magazines and asked them to choose which one they preferred based on mise-en-scene (layout, model etc.). For my general audience research, I made a survey using Google Forms which I then sent to twenty contacts giving me varied responses. I first questioned my audience in regards to their age and I found that the majority of my audience is 15-years old. This will allow me to cater my product towards them. In this question, I ask my audience to specify their gender. My predominantly female audience indicates that my artist and cover lines will have to be conventionally more 'feminine' in order to engage them. I asked my audience if they listen to music regularly and as the answer was 100% yes, I can infer that they will be interested in a music magazine. This question tells me that although the majority of my audience would purchase a magazine with their favourite artist on it, I will have to create intriguing cover lines in order to attract the remainder of them.
