In my focused audience research, I asked my two female participants a series of questions in order to gain an insight of their preferences. Question 1: Name an artist you like from your favourite genre. I asked my participants to name an artist that they liked from their favourite genre so that I could get an idea about the type of artists my target audience would want to see on a magazine front cover. One participant answered "Billie Eilish" whilst the other answered "Hey Violet". These artists both have unique styles and I plan to take elements from each when creating my own artist. Question 2: Which magazine do you prefer out of the three? I sent my participants three magazines and asked them to choose which one they preferred based on mise-en-scene (layout, model etc.). My first participant chose the Rolling Stone magazine featuring Camila Cabello due to the vibrant red background and eye-catching model pose. My second participant chose Acclaim magazi...
The Kerrang masthead is black which connotes seriousness and something that has solemn and dark attributes to it. The capitalised font (along with the exclamation mark) make it seem as though the word is being shouted which reflects their rock and metal genre as rock music is often labelled as loud, aggressive and chaotic. On the masthead, there are white lines which mimic the appearance of a shattered mirror signifying the fact that not only does the magazine break conventions, but it also doesn't pay mind to it's appearance or how it viewed by others. Billboard uses a sans-serif black font which has red, yellow and blue circles within the letters. This gives the magazine a more modern and artistic feel to it as opposed to Q or the 'Rolling Stone' which appear more vintage and serious. The colours reflect the pop genre of the magazine and as they are the primary colours, it provides the magazine with an air of importance as it implies that the...
For my general audience research, I made a survey using Google Forms which I then sent to twenty contacts giving me varied responses. I first questioned my audience in regards to their age and I found that the majority of my audience is 15-years old. This will allow me to cater my product towards them. In this question, I ask my audience to specify their gender. My predominantly female audience indicates that my artist and cover lines will have to be conventionally more 'feminine' in order to engage them. I asked my audience if they listen to music regularly and as the answer was 100% yes, I can infer that they will be interested in a music magazine. This question tells me that although the majority of my audience would purchase a magazine with their favourite artist on it, I will have to create intriguing cover lines in order to attract the remainder of them. I was unsure as to what genre I wanted my magazine to be therefore I asked my audience. This ques...
